Four children and two women were injured Wednesday night in a head-on collision between two vehicles at the intersection of Washington Avenue and West Alameda Street.
Todd Wildermuth, public information officer with the Roswell Police Department, said one of the drivers, Devin Jade Ostrander, 27, of Roswell, was medically checked at a hospital and then booked on charges of Driving While Under the Influence and child abuse.
The child abuse charges are because Ostrander had two children — both about a year old, in the vehicle with her during the suspected DWI.
Investigators believe that at about 9 p.m., Ostrander was driving northbound on South Washington Avenue when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and then veered into the southbound lane of South Washington — while still going northbound — and collided head-on with a vehicle heading south.
The 54-year-old female driver of the southbound vehicle and two of the three children in the vehicle with her were taken to a hospital. The injuries to the children were minor, while the injuries to the driver of the southbound vehicle were more significant, though not life-threatening, Wildermuth said.
Ostrander and the two children were also taken to the hospital. Wildermuth said the two children in Ostrander’s vehicle received injuries that are believed to be minor.
