The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died in a Thursday morning shooting as Bobby Nunez.
Nunez, 43, was found on a property in the 600 block of Meadowbrook Road with a gunshot wound. The case is the first homicide of 2019 being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office, Herrington said.
The Sheriff’s Office arrived at the residence shortly before 7 a.m. in response to a report of a shooting in the area. In addition to investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, technicians from the Roswell Police Department were also on the scene to process the crime scene.
Nunez was transported to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center where he later died of his injuries, the release states.
No charges have been filed at this time, according to the release. A post on the Facebook page of the Sheriff’s Office Thursday stated that one person of interest had been taken to the office for questioning. However, the release did not state any other information about that interview or person of interest.
“Not much information can be released concerning this investigation. However, we are working to identify persons who might be associated with the property and/or victim,” the release states.
The body of Nunez has been sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, according to the release.
