Early birds were able to see the first hot air balloons slowly drifting over North Main Street heading east on Friday morning. The balloon pilots arrived for a first flight to prepare for the 32nd Rise Over Roswell Balloon Rally today and on Sunday. The event at the Russ DeKay Soccer Complex kicks off at 6 a.m. with the playing of the National Anthem and Pilot’s Prayer. The balloons lift off — weather permitting — at 6:30 a.m. Today, at 10:45 a.m. the festivities for Cinco de Mayo follow the balloonists, which include entertainment such as games, dances, taco and jalapeño eating contest and live music until late in the evening.
