Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell will hold two graduation exercises next week.

71st Commencent Convocation

About 200 candidates for graduation are expected to participate in Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell’s 71st Commencement Convocation for postsecondary certificate and degree earners.

The ceremony is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at the Roswell Convention & Civic Center, 912 N. Main St.

Bachelor’s and master’s degree candidates from ENMU in Portales also will participate.

The commencement speaker will be Robert Lopez Andazola, a candidate for an Associate of Applied Science degree.

Ever since he was a young boy, Andazola has been interested in video games, Japanese animation or Anime, and the designs that can be created using a computer. His natural, creative talent led him to a career choice and, with the completion of an associate’s degree in media arts and graphic design, Andazola is on his way to fulfilling his dreams.

Andazola graduated from Roswell High School in 2017 and accepted the Presidential Scholarship at ENMU-Roswell.

“With the scholarship, I didn’t have to worry about finances,” he said. “I stayed home and was able to focus on my work.”

In addition to his class work, he has completed freelance projects for individuals and organizations. With the assistance of his instructor, Alan Trever, Andazola also obtained an internship position with the marketing department at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, where he has designed flyers and publications. For the past two and a half years, Andazola also has held a part-time job at Albertson’s. He is now the assistant manager at the bakery and has created some special signage for the store.

Andazola plans to continue his education at the University of New Mexico and complete a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. He would eventually like to establish his own graphic design business. Until then, he intends to continue improving and advancing his skills and finding inspiration in the world around him.

Adult education ceremony

The Adult Education Department will hold its 29th annual Adult Education Graduation Ceremony on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on campus.

Approximately 70 candidates for graduation are expected to participate. They have earned GED or HiSET high school equivalency certificates. A reception will follow the ceremony in the Campus Union Building.

The featured speaker will be Candy Spence Ezzell, a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives for District 58 since 2004. Born in Artesia, she is also the owner and operator of the 2 C Slash Ranch.

The student address will be given by Tyler McQuary.
