Letter: Same moral standard should be demanded of Dems, Republicans

We have been hearing of calls by the Democrats to impeach President Donald Trump. We must wonder why we hear such a fervent cry. Is it because of a crime, the likes of which has never before been seen in a president?

Let us look at some offenses of the previous administration.

In 2012, then-Attorney General Eric Holder simply ignored a subpoena in the Fast and Furious investigation. …

On December 5, 2011, our top secret drone landed in Iran. Then-President Obama was given options by his military to recapture the vehicle or destroy it. Mr. Obama said, “We’ll ask for it back and see what happens.” Most predictably, Iran did not return it. We could reasonably call this inaction treason. We should remember that in 1953 Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed for giving secrets to the Soviet Union. …

In 2012, then President Obama was subpoenaed in the case Farrar, Lax, Judy, Malaren, and Roth v. Obama. Mr. Obama ignored the subpoena. In 1974, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Nixon, 418 U.S. 683 that a president cannot ignore a subpoena.

… Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee is demanding to have the Mueller Report made public. Rep. Nadler does not even want the President to see the report before the public does. He took a much different approach in 1998 when the Starr Report found cause to impeach then-President Clinton.

We are seeing partisan politics at its very worst. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see some consistency in the likes of Nancy Pelosi and other top-ranking Democrats? Suppose they demanded the same moral standard for Democrats and Republicans. What would this world look like today?

We must believe the real reason for these efforts to impeach the president is that Mr. Trump had the gall to win the 2016 election when everyone “knew” Hillary Clinton was the heir apparent.
