Fernando (Fred) Alfredo Reyes passed from this life and joined his lord on May 18, 2019. Fred was born July 18, 1944 in Roswell, NM to Elisa Flores Reyes and Fernando Reyes. He grew up at South Springs Ranch until the age of nine when the family moved to East College Street in Roswell. He attended Roswell Public Schools. At the age of 17, Fred joined the US Marine Corps.

At the age of 15, Fred’s uncle Jerry Miles got him interested in boxing where he participated in Golden Gloves in Roswell. While in the Marine Corps he belonged to the USMC boxing team fighting out of the Marine Base at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He won several awards while boxing with the Marines. After the Marines, Fred returned to Roswell and resumed boxing with the Roswell Boxing Programs. He established an impressive record which included a state championship in 1965 and represented New Mexico at the Golden Gloves National Tournaments in Kansas City, MO.

After the Marines he studied architecture at Albuquerque TVI and NMSU. There he developed an interest and talent for building and remodeling homes. Fred further developed this interest by working as a building construction seasonal worker at Yosemite National Park in Wyoming/Montana for three summers. While there he also did a little rodeoing — riding bareback horses and a big Bull! Fred had wonderful memories of his summers in Wyoming and Montana.

Fred returned to Roswell, obtained his Building Contractor’s License and developed a rewarding 40-year career in construction, building new homes and remodeling old ones. He excelled at finish work and cabinetry. One of his major accomplishments was building a custom home – taking it from architectural design to completion.

Six years ago after several family miracles, Fred firmly believed that God had blessed him and had offered him a second chance. Fred took it and committed himself to the Lord Jesus Christ. It was this faith in God that helped Fred endure the difficulties of his long-term illness.
