Roswell police and fire units responded Wednesday morning to a fire at a vacant apartment complex in the southwest section of Roswell.

The fire at the Town Plaza apartment complex at West McGaffey Street and Sunset Avenue was reported at about 8 a.m.

No one was injured in the fire that was quickly brought under control, according to Todd Wildermuth, public information officer with the Roswell Fire Department. At least two apartment units were affected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but arson is believed to be a possibility, Wildermuth said.

He said police have responded to “a good number” of calls to the apartments since they were closed down in January.

No tenants have inhabited the complex, which consists of nine buildings and 72 apartment units, since January, when the city began condemnation proceedings due to health and safety issues with the buildings.
