Groovin’ for kids at Early Intervention event

Hailey Perez, left, and Sophia Cardenas gyrate their way to prizes in a hula hoop contest Saturday morning at the Chaves County Courthouse during the second annual Stepping Out for Children event. A third winner, Jaelyn Ortega, is not pictured. Los Pasitos Early Intervention program and its affiliates, Tobosa Developmental Services and Los Pasitos Day Care and Learning Center, organized the event to make people aware of the free services offered to families with children with learning or developmental concerns. “A lot of people don’t know about us, so we want to get the word out,” says Felicia Juarez, director of children’s services. Other groups serving families and children also had booths at the event, which included lunch, raffles, games and activities. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
