Visitors can journey through space, time using virtual reality technology

Roebuck Entertainment, creator of the Roswell Christmas Railway, is launching Spaceport Roswell, a virtual reality attraction, during the 2019 UFO Festival. Spaceport Roswell will allow visitors to journey into space, around the world and through time using virtual reality technology, according to event organizers.

The virtual reality attraction will be open July 4-8 at a temporary location at 220 N. Main Street, next to Bank of the Southwest.

Visitors will select a journey, then flight attendants will assist them in donning a virtual reality headset as visitors embark on their chosen experience.

The first featured journey — entitled “1947” — puts visitors on the alien ship moments before it crashes into the desert in the historical event that became known as the “Roswell Incident.” In the program, presented by the Roswell Daily Record, visitors get to see first-hand what happened to make Roswell world famous, according to a press release from event organizers.

“Of course we have all heard the Roswell story, but we wanted people to feel like they were there when it happened,” said Spaceport Roswell producer Jacob Roebuck. “That is the kind of experience VR technology can create.”

Spaceport Roswell will open at its temporary location during the UFO festival with the “1947” journey and several other selections.

Later in the year Roebuck Entertainment is looking to re-open Spaceport Roswell with dozens of “destinations” at a permanent location in Roswell. Journeys will include time travel to historic events, visits to exotic locations and sci-fi futuristic adventures.

“The magic of Spaceport Roswell is you will be able to go places, see things and experience realities that otherwise are impossible to access. Virtual reality removes the constraints of space and time to allow our visitors to have amazing journeys from the comfort of one of our space pods,” said Roebuck.

Kyle Bullock, a fourth generation downtown business owner, said, “They have done such an amazing job with the Christmas Railway, I am excited to see what Roebuck Entertainment can bring to our tourist experience downtown.”
