ENMU-R programs help students prepare for college

Area high school students attend classes at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell this summer as participants in Upward Bound, a program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. It and two other programs, Talent Search and Student Support Services, make up TRiO, all meant to help high school students advance academically and be prepared for college. (Submitted Photo)

Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell has begun its six-week Upward Bound Program, which will run until July 12.

As many as 50 high school students are on campus participating in the summer college prep program. Students are taking courses in math, physical science, life science, German language, English, physical education and career exploration.

Upward Bound is a federally funded program to promote academic achievement and college attendance.

Four “Bridge” students also are taking classes this summer. Those students recently graduated from high school and are now “bridging over” to post-secondary education.
