Residents of Roswell — and visitors — will be able to dive into the city’s newest recreational facility Saturday during the grand opening of the Roswell Recreation & Aquatic Center at 1402 W. College Blvd.
The doors will open at 10 a.m. and a ceremony is planned to begin at 10:15 a.m. featuring a variety of speakers.
The ceremony will include city councilors — and kids who are part of the city’s youth recreation programs — commemorating the opening with a hoop shoot in the gymnasium, and Mayor Dennis Kintigh joining youngsters to take the first trip down the slide into the outdoor pool.
Any youth who have participated in the city’s recreation programs are asked to wear their recreation-program shirts when attending Saturday’s grand opening.
Free tours of the facility will be available throughout the day, and those coming to the center Saturday will receive giveaway items of beach balls and commemorative wristbands while supplies last.
Free hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided by two local radio stations to the first 500 people.
Representatives of Keep Roswell Beautiful will be at the grand opening to provide information about their efforts and welcome any new volunteers wishing to help.
During Saturday’s event, people can also sign up at the Keep Roswell Beautiful table for a city raffle that will give away a Recreation & Aquatic Center one-year membership for a family of up to six people.
Beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until 8 p.m., the public will be able to use the new facility’s amenities.
Attending the grand-opening festivities is free. Regular admission fees will apply Saturday for people using the facility following the opening ceremony.
Information about daily-use fees and membership options are found online at roswell-nm.gov/Recreation-Aquatic-Center.
Memberships can be purchased at Saturday’s event or online at roswellconnect.com.
