Roswell will celebrate America’s Independence Day with the Roswell Sertoma Club’s Mike Satterfield Memorial Fourth of July Extravaganza sponsored by the Roswell Sertoma Club and the city of Roswell. The annual event at Cielo Grande Recreation Area, 1612 W. College Blvd., takes place from 6 to 10 p.m.

The free extravaganza gets underway at 6 p.m. with plenty of kids activities in the “Kids Zone,” as well as local food and drink vendors.

The free musical entertainment will open about 6:15 p.m. with Albuquerque-based band Rhythm Divine, which plays traditional New Mexico music infused with rock ‘n’ roll, blues and country, while having the influences of soul, funk and R&B.

Headlining the concert, Billy Ray Cyrus will perform at 7:30 p.m. The country music star has become a household name over the course of his career that spans across music, television and theater. Throughout his nearly three-decade career, Cyrus has achieved worldwide success as a singer, songwriter, actor and producer.

The Flatwoods, Kentucky, native exploded onto the music scene when his first album, “Some Gave All,” debuted on the all-genre Billboard album chart at No. 1 and stayed there for a record-breaking 17 weeks in 1992. The lead single, “Achy Breaky Heart,” became a phenomenon as the single went multi-platinum.

After “Achy Breaky Heart,” Cyrus followed up with hits, “It Could’ve Been Me,” “She’s Not Crying Anymore,” “Wher’m I Gonna Live When I Get Home?” and the anthemic “Some Gave All.” Cyrus continues to find success as his remix of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” reached No. 1 on all music-streaming platforms worldwide this year.

Following the concert, Roswell firefighters will take part in a “Lantern Liftoff” to conclude this year’s extravaganza.

Joining the Roswell Sertoma Club and the city of Roswell as sponsors of this year’s event are Antigua Cocina Mexicana, Cerritos Mexican Kitchen, Chef Toddzilla’s Gourmet Burgers, J&S Pro Sound Entertainment, Roswell Nissan, Hot 97 KBCQ and KMOU 104.7.

As motorists arrive and leave the area, they are asked to be aware of and follow the directions of signs and police officers directing traffic to create a traffic flow that will allow people to most efficiently enter and exit the area.
