A Roswell woman is scheduled to appear in court July 24 for a preliminary hearing regarding alleged abuse of her elderly mother.

Jodi Deeter, 50, was arrested Tuesday after neighbors called the Roswell Police Department and allegedly told an officer that they witnessed Deeter yelling at her mother and pulling her arms, ear and hair.

The officer also noted in his report that he observed torn skin on the elderly woman, who told him that she did not want her daughter to go to jail.

Deeter appeared in Chaves County Magistrate Court on Wednesday on a fourth-degree felony charge of abuse.

She was released on her own recognizance, ordered to have no contact with the victim or witnesses for the time being, and assigned a public defender.
