One man is dead after two motorcyclists collided Friday in Eddy County.

The accident occurred at 9:45 p.m. on Derrick Road near Roberson Road south of Carlsbad, according to a news release from the New Mexico State Police.

Findings from the initial investigation suggest that Jayson Michael Salcido, 35, of Carlsbad, was traveling east on Derrick Road while driving a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle, when for unknown reasons, he collided head-on with a westbound 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by a 29-year-old Carlsbad man near the center of the road.

Salcido sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at a local hospital by the Office of the Medical Investigator, the release states.

The driver of the 2000 Harley Davidson was transported to a local hospital and subsequently airlifted to an area trauma center. The release states that his condition and injuries are not yet known.
