Repairing a major water line break on North Garden Avenue is taking longer than expected because the line involved “is old and fragile,” according to a press release issued Monday by the city of Roswell.

The water line break occurred July 9 in the area of North Garden Avenue and Cherry Street.

The contractor worked through the weekend removing a 36-inch water main. It was expected to take through today to install and connect the replacement pipe.

“Tie-in to the existing pipe must be done slowly and carefully because of the age of the existing pipe,” according to the press release.

The repaired portion could begin to be pressured up Wednesday. Water pressure must be increased slowly to prevent additional breaks.
