Local groups help with heat relief

Just as temperatures are expected to hover around 100 degrees all week, Westlake Ace Hardware of Roswell and the local chapter of the Salvation Army began handing out free fans to those in need Wednesday morning, with about 29 distributed by mid-afternoon. The distribution will continue until all 135 fans are taken, said Niki Woollin, Salvation Army captain. Timothy Davidson, Ace Hardware’s general manager, said the Roswell community provided $1,600 for the effort, the third year the store has participated. “They donated more this year than they did last year,” he said. “The community is generous when it comes to a good cause.” The donations allowed for the purchase of 110 fans through the store, with Ace Hardware contributing the other 25.
