Juanita, those who knew her called her Nita, was born July 17, 1934, in Sayre, OK, to Linney and Georgia Willis Scott. She departed this world too soon on Wednesday, July 3, 2019. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 26, 2019, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. Pastor Pete Crook, from Bethel Baptist Church, will officiate. Lunch will be served at 11:30 AM, at the Roswell Elks Lodge, 1720 N. Montana Avenue.

Nita loved people, being independent, and staying active. She looked forward to her weekly card games with friends and visiting with her grandchildren. Nita enjoyed volunteering at the Roswell Senior Circle, where she looked forward to the monthly Newcomers Luncheon to visit with people she had not seen in a while. Going to the grocery store with her would take hours because she always ran into someone she knew. Nita was active in Sister in Stitches, the VFW Auxiliary, Old Timers, and loved competing in the Senior Olympics.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Russell Weatherford and wife Beverly of Roswell, NM, Cathy York and husband Terry of Fort Worth, TX, and Gail Long and husband Bobby of Edgewood, NM. She had special bonds with her four grandchildren and their spouses: Matt Long and wife Liz of Mesa, AZ, Sara Long Gallegos and husband Tom of Boston, MA, Kyle Parker and wife Lorea Stallard of Washington, DC, and Ryan Weatherford and partner Ka’imi Hironaka of Kapolei, Hawaii. Nita was so thankful to be able to enjoy her great-grandchildren: Ana Gallegos and Hannah Frauli. She is also survived by her brother, Donnie Ratliff; a close long-time family friend, Vernon Aguilar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nita is preceded in death by her husband, Alvie Weatherford; second husband, Andy Edwards; special friend, Jack Steller; parents; and brothers: Joe Reed, and Ronnie Ratliff.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to assist veterans or other service organizations and charities of their choosing that will help people in Roswell and around the country.
