World Series watch party planned for today

The Roswell Intermediates All-Star team is playing in the U.S. Final of the Little League Intermediate Division World Series.

Roswell’s citizens are encouraged to come out Saturday evening to be part of a Watch Party as the Roswell All-Stars play in the U.S. Final game of the Little League Intermediate Division World Series in California.

The Watch Party will be hosted at the Roswell Convention & Civic Center, 912 N. Main St., by Noon Optimist Little League and Lions Hondo Little League. Baseball players from each of the local leagues make up the Roswell Intermediate All-Star team. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the event, which is free to the public. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The local Little Leagues and Peter Piper Pizza are providing free pizza, soft drinks and bottled water. A cash bar will also be available.

Representing Little League’s Southwest Region, the Roswell All-Stars, 3-1 at the World Series, will take on the McCalla, Alabama team, 3-0, from the Southeast Region. The winner will advance to the Little League Intermediate Division World Series Final to be played Sunday at 7 p.m. Roswell time. The opponent in the World Series Final will be the winner of Saturday afternoon’s International Final between Seoul, South Korea, and Matamoros, Mexico.

The Intermediate Division is for ages 11-13 and uses a 50-foot pitching distance and a 70-foot distance between each of the bases.

The Intermediate Division World Series being played in Livermore, California, began July 28 and concludes this Sunday, Aug. 4. It is one of numerous Little League baseball and softball divisions currently holding World Series tournaments across the country. Games are being broadcast and streamed on the ESPN networks.
