Sherry Mumford, United Way of Chaves County director, spoke at a recent Sunrise Optimist meeting. She took the opportunity to share information about the Women’s Project. This is a group of women who desire to affect change in Roswell for other women through philanthropy and leadership, raising funds that are awarded to various local agencies such as Chaves County CASA’s summer girls camp, Reflections and Recovery, Rivers of Life, etc. Each year, a special event is held to honor community women who have made a difference in various categories. This year, six local women were honored for their achievements as entrepreneurs, humanitarians, innovators, educators, rising stars and trailblazers. For more information on these awards or membership in this group, contact Sherry Mumford at United Way of Chaves County.

The Sunrise Optimist Club invites speakers throughout the community to talk to the club each Wednesday morning, 7 a.m., at Lovelace Hospital cafeteria during regular meetings. If you would like to know more about the Sunrise Optimist Club and its many programs to benefit the youth of Roswell, or hear the community speakers, join us for a breakfast meeting any Wednesday, or contact our membership chairman, Roger K. Burnett, at 420-9420.
