Bobbi Jo McIntire hands out suggestions for topics to be covered in prayer at the first Roswell Independent School District Prayer Walk Wednesday that she organized, which coincided with the first school day of the academic year. Describing herself as a concerned mother of two new RISD students, she decided Friday to launch the voluntary and non-denominational prayer gathering, which she said had been a traditional start to her school year at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. “I am hoping to pull the community together to pray for our schools and pray for the school year,” she said. The prayer walk attracted a small group of educators, parents and school board members, as well as Superintendent Dr. Ann Lynn McIlroy and her husband. After a prayer for the facilities and staff at the district offices at 300 N. Kentucky Ave., those attending dispersed to pray for a while at each of the public schools in Roswell. McIntire said whoever didn’t make it to the walk is encouraged to pray at home. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
