Jose L. Barraza, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 91 on August 10, 2019. Jose was born on August 16, 1927 in Durango, Mexico to Francisco and Irene Barraza. Jose had a long, happy, and healthy life. Jose, a man of great faith and a beloved member of the Catholic Church was a loving person and always willing to help anyone in need.

Jose retired from Zenith Electronics Corporation, in Chicago, Illinois, where he enjoyed working for over 17 years. After his retirement, Jose moved back to New Mexico where he enjoyed living and working many years on the family farm in Hagerman, New Mexico. Jose was loved by his family and friends and enjoyed the good friendship of many loving friends. Jose always loved to be around his family and friends. Jose was always a very happy person, that enjoyed dancing, working on the farm and his special projects, and being active in as many activities as possible.

Jose was preceded in death by his father, Francisco, his mother, Irene, and his brothers and sisters, Carmen, Margarita, Jesusita, Jose, Jesus, Ramon, and Carlos.

Jose is survived by his wife, Ernestina Barraza, his sons Luis and wife Maria Astorga and their children; Manuel and wife Olga Barraza and their children Lori Olivas, Erick Barraza (deceased), Leonel Barraza, and Henry and wife Magali Barraza; Miguel and wife Patricia Barraza and their children Miguel Barraza Jr., Ricardo Barraza and fiancée Deziree Torres, and Adrian Barraza and girlfriend Mackenzie Matthews; and Jesus and wife Ebru Barraza. Jose is also survived by his great grandchildren Raul, Rene, Rebecca, Erick, Erick, Manuel, Luis, Adrian, and Julian.

A rosary will be held at 7 pm, Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Ballard Funeral Home, with mass being held at 10 am, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at St. John’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hagerman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 am to 8 pm, Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Ballard Funeral Home.
