Chris LaDuca, at right, a board member of the Roswell Homeless Coalition, observes as workers from Waide Construction and Rhoads Plumbing work on renovations to the men’s shelter at East Albuquerque Street. The coalition received $40,000 from the United Way of Chaves County and is using the funds to bring bathrooms in a building that once was a laundromat up to code and into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act standards. A bedroom and office for the shelter’s night manager is also being renovated. The contractors are also working on electrical and plumbing systems and heating and air conditioning. The shelter houses about 20 men in beds and tents on the property. The coalition also operates a women’s shelter on East Bland Street. (Lisa Dunlap Photo)
