Carl Franklin Curtner, 85, of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.
Carl was born on June 26, 1934 to Ruth and Otho Curtner in Alton, Missouri. He spent much of his time with his grandmother, Minnie Curtner, and his aunt, Hilda Whatley. He may have been lovingly spoiled by these two doting women. He graduated from Steele High School in 1952, and then proudly served in the US Navy aboard the US Leyte from 1952 – 1955.
Carl met his sweetheart, Sue Stewart, at the Drumstick in Steele, MO, and married her in January 1956. They spent 63 years as loving parents, travel partners, and bowling buddies.
Dad was passionate about baseball and football, especially his Arkansas State Football and St. Louis Cardinals. He also loved to fish, hunt, golf – just about anything outdoors. He was an administrator, coach and teacher in Harrisburg and Caraway, AR and Roswell, NM. After retirement, Mom and Dad spent their time at a beautiful lake in Cherokee Village entertaining family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Curtner; daughters, Teri Crockett (Jack), Carla Gotcher; grandchildren Brint Crockett, Carly Durham (Jonathan), Andrew Gotcher, Caroline Hoban (Chad), Emma Gotcher; and 5 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to Reese’s Rainbow; Special Needs Adoption Support at reecesrainbow.org
