Xcel Energy employees and some of their family members gather Saturday morning at the Roswell Literacy Council at 609 W. 10th St. to donate several hours of labor for painting, weeding, shrub trimming and general exterior spruce up of the local nonprofit. Mike McLeod, community relations manager — back row, middle, in camouflage hat — says, “United Way is one of our biggest efforts as a corporation. I am always proud that our employees step up to volunteer and help.” Sherry Mumford, United Way executive director — in front row, left — says that the nonprofit’s Day of Caring resumed last year after a hiatus. About 30 volunteers participated this year, working not only at the Roswell Literacy Council but at the Loaves and Fishes food pantry in Hagerman. (Lisa Dunlap Photos)
