Vegan, ketogenic, gluten-free, low fat, low carb, high protein, etc. — with all the different ways of eating, it can be confusing to know what’s right for you. Even after deciding on a diet that fits your lifestyle, it can be challenging to create dishes that are appealing and varied enough to keep one from giving up the diet altogether. For those who are running out of ideas, the Roswell Public Library has plenty of books to keep you on track with your diet.

Veganism is a way of eating that abstains from partaking in any animal product. For some, this even means not eating honey because it is a product of bees. Many people think of plant-based foods as boring or as paling in comparison to foods that include animal products, but it is quite possible to create varied and exciting dishes that do not include any animal product. “Quick and Easy Vegan Bake Sale” by Carla Kelly dispels the notion that veganism is boring. It shows bakers how to use all their favorite fruits and vegetables to create both desserts and savory baked goods. The ingredients in the recipes can be found at any supermarket, and baked goods are just as easy to create as any non-vegan food. It’s a great resource to those who are hoping to add a bit of pizzazz to their vegan diet. This book can be found in adult nonfiction, call number 641.5636 K259q.

Ketogenic diets aim to limit the number of carbohydrates a person eats in an attempt to keep their body in a metabolic state known as ketosis. The main sources of fuel for the body in this diet are fat and protein. The benefits of the diet are still in dispute, but many people have reported losing weight and correcting several health disorders on the diet. Still, many people think of a keto diet as very limiting. “Keto Lunches,” by Stephanie Pederson dispels that notion. In this book, she shows how to make everything from sandwiches, soups, salads, and even keto condiments. Many of the recipes are just slight tweaks to other higher carb recipes, and they are every bit as delicious. This book also shows off the keto creations in color pictures, providing even more motivation to those who were intimidated by the idea of cooking keto foods. It’s the perfect book for those looking for easy to follow keto recipes. It can be found in adult nonfiction, call number 641.5638 P341k.
