Organizations announce Labor Day schedules

Schedules for Labor Day, a federal holiday observed on Monday, have been announced for local governments and the university.

City of Roswell

The Roswell Public Library, the Adult Center and the landfill will be closed Labor Day. The Roswell Museum and Art Center is closed every Monday. The non-aquatic side of the Recreation and Aquatic Center will be closed, but the pools will be open (indoor pool 6 a.m.-8 p.m.; outdoor pool 10 a.m.-8 p.m.).

The Spring River Park and Zoo will be open, as will the downtown Visitors Center.

City bus service and trash pickup will be altered because of the holiday.

Pecos Trails Transit will have buses in operation only on Main Street that Monday. The buses will run from 10:28 a.m. to 6:52 p.m.

The Sanitation Department’s trash pickup for the week of Sept. 2 has been adjusted. Areas south of Alameda Street plus areas east of Garden Avenue between Alameda and Second Street (normally picked up on Monday and Thursday) will have their trash containers picked up Tuesday and Thursday. Other areas north of Alameda (normally picked up on Tuesday and Friday) will have their trash containers picked up Wednesday and Friday.

Residents with individual roll-out containers must have them placed at the curb by 5 a.m. the day of service.

Chaves County and federal offices

All Chaves County offices and federal offices are closed Monday. Official U.S. Post Office locations also will be closed.

Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell

All campus offices at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell will be closed Monday, and no classes will be held. The campus will reopen and classes will resume as scheduled on Tuesday. For campus information, call 575-624-7000.
