Goddard football player Dominic Chavez is doing well on his road to recovery. Dominic’s father, Robert, updated RDR Sports on all his son has accomplished this week.

“We have had another busy week here in Denver,” Robert said, “lots of hard work and learning happening this week. We continue to learn how to adapt to a new life while working on regaining lost movement and strength.

“Dom also got the chance to help test out an adaptive fishing rod,” Robert said, “definitely something Grandpa Berto would have been impressed with, and we know he was watching out from above.”

Dominic was injured during football practice over the summer.

Shortly after the injury occurred on July 3, Dominic’s family provided RDR Sports with a statement. It read, in part: “Our son, Dominic Chavez accidentally injured his neck at football practice. Dom broke C5 and there was a displacement of the C5/C6 vertebrae with spinal cord involvement. He has no feeling from his chest to his lower body and was unable to move his legs. … We were flown to UNC El Paso, Texas, where they rushed him into emergency surgery to fix the vertebrae and relieve the compression on his spinal cord. The doctors said it went well.”

“Thank you for the letters and cards and care packages. We appreciate you!! Congratulations to the Broncos, Demons, Coyotes and of course the Rockets on their wins this week. Continue to win, play and compete with class. Wish we could be there to watch it all,” Robert wrote this week.
