Chief Petty Officer First Class Benjamin Daniel Martin (Retired) joined his beloved wife Felicidad “Syd” Martin in eternal rest on August 30, 2019 after a brief but heroic fight with pancreatic cancer at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA.

Danny was born on February 13th, 1951 in Roswell, NM to Calvin Leon Martin and Betty Eloise Martin (Arnold). Danny’s father passed away when Danny was very young. Betty married Robert L Bradley “Pop”, also of Roswell, who was a wonderful father to young Danny. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Felicidad “Syd” Martin. His parents, Calvin Leon Martin, Robert and Betty Bradley, grandparents, Benjamin Martin, Dan and Edna Arnold, and a niece, Cynthia L. Sturgis of Kalamazoo, MI.

Danny is survived by his son, Calvin L. Martin. Just like his “Pop”, Danny was also a loving stepfather to Eva Bisquera of San Diego, CA; Leilani Beronilla of Zambales, Philippines; Rudolph Bisquera and Neil Bisquera of Doha, Qatar; Precious Bisquera of France.

Survivors also include his siblings, Corrine Lamb of Kalamazoo, MI; Jimmy and Deb Martin of Roswell, NM; Walter Joe Martin of Mt. Pleasant, TX; Twila and Vitus Vandenburg of Dekalb TX; Kevin and Frances Bradley of Roswell, NM. He is also survived by his Uncle Dave and Aunt Shirlene Arnold of Roswell, NM and Aunt Sandra and Uncle Gary Bayes of Columbus, OH.

Danny is survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He has numerous nieces and nephews all over the world. He has a large family and many friends that will miss him greatly. Dan is also survived by a very special friend, Susie Kalata, who gave him much joy and laughter.

Dan was a very intelligent student at Goddard High School in Roswell, NM maintaining a 3.8 GPA. Upon graduation in 1969 he was awarded a scholarship to ENMU at Portales, NM. After retiring from the US Navy in 1994, he earned his Masters Degree in Organizational Management. He was working on his PhD when he fell ill.

Dan’s grandparents kept a photograph displayed in their home of his Uncle Clyde Arnold who was a proud sailor in The Navy. Uncle Dave can recall Dan pointing at that picture and saying “That’s what I want to do.” Dan joined the Navy in early 1970. Dan served on many Naval vessels including the USS Midway and the USS Nimitz. Dan was stationed at Clark Naval Station in the Philippines. He met and married his second wife, Felicidad “Syd”. They made a home in Manilla together until Clark Naval Station was closed. They moved to San Diego, CA and made their lifetime home together until the Lord called them home.

The services for Chief Petty Officer First Class Benjamin Daniel Martin (retired) will be in San Diego, CA. The viewing will be September 10 from 4-8 PM at Featheringill Mortuary, 6322 El Cajon Blvd. The burial will be September 11, 2019 at 11:30 AM at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Noble Dr. In lieu of flowers, Thank a vet or an active service member.

Dan spoke many languages and was a great survival instructor to countless young Sailors and Marines. He performed many heroic acts to save and protect America. Danny served his country in many capacities and conflicts. A simple patriot simply laid to rest.

Danny will be greatly missed by family and friends. Special love goes out to his daughter, Eva Bisquera and special friend, Susie Kalata for all their kindness, compassion, and care.
