The United Way of Chaves County has about four months to raise $428,000 to reach its 2019 goal.

The official start of the campaign was Tuesday during a luncheon at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center, with co-chairs Caleb Grant, Chad Holloway and Jeff Weathers announcing that $72,000 in contributions already have been received toward the $500,000 goal.

The fundraising effort usually ends on Dec. 31, although donations are sometimes still accepted into January, said Executive Director Sherry Mumford.

“This campaign is something we are interested in doing and excited about doing,” said Holloway. “Our lives are here. Chaves County is very important to us. We feel it is a great opportunity to make a difference, along with you.”

The money raised from individuals, businesses and groups go to nonprofits that serve about 14,000 people in Chaves County. Applications for funding requests will be issued within a few weeks and due by Dec. 30.
