First responders and New Mexico Gas crews respond to a one-vehicle accident on Old Dexter Highway a few miles south of the Roswell city limits that occurred about 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The single-vehicle rollover near the intersection of Hobson Road and Old Dexter Highway resulted in downed utility lines and a gas leak when the vehicle hit a natural gas riser, according to Todd Wildermuth, city of Roswell spokesman, and Tim Korte, New Mexico Gas spokesman. Public safety personnel closed the roads heading toward the intersection in all directions from East Grand Plains Road to East Crossroads and from Graves Road to Corrales Road. Gas service was shut off for seven customers in the area. Korte said the leak was under control by 4 p.m. and that service was expected to be restored to all customers by Saturday night. One person from the vehicle involved in the accident was transported to a hospital, but the extent of injuries was unknown by press time. The Roswell Fire Department, personnel from various Chaves County volunteer fire departments, Hagerman Police, Dexter Police, New Mexico State Police and Chaves County Sheriff’s personnel responded to the incident.
