Work on the South Atkinson Avenue roadway project between McGaffey and Second streets has been suspended until Oct. 7, according to a city of Roswell press release.
The contractor’s hot plant, where asphalt for the project is produced, is down until a heater can be replaced. The heater is on order and will not be in until late September.
To avoid conflicts with the Eastern New Mexico State Fair during the week of Sept. 30, work will not resume until Oct. 7.
This section of Atkinson will be open to traffic during the work stoppage.
Once the hot plant is operating, Atkinson between Alameda and Second streets will most likely be closed to through traffic for about a week to complete milling and paving, according to the press release.
