Magil Duran, president of the Southeastern New Mexico Veterans Transportation Network, stands Tuesday next to one of the organization’s two 2019 Dodge Caravans. The vans — which can each hold up to three passengers in electric wheelchairs — were purchased using $100,000 in capital outlay funds appropriated by local lawmakers during the recent legislative session. Duran said Wednesday the efforts of several local lawmakers made the appropriation possible. “And we are totally indebted to them,” he said. The Veterans Transportation Network is an organization that drives military veterans in the southeast corner of the state to their medical appointments. Duran said the two new vans are the latest additions to the organization’s 12-van fleet, and the new vehicles are “top of the line” in getting veterans where they need to go. One van will be kept at the organization’s headquarters in Artesia and the other in Roswell. (Alex Ross Photo)
