Senior Day at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair will include health screenings, speakers, entertainment and food, according to one of the event organizers.

Terry Delgado of the New Mexico Senior Olympics said that the event, to be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m., will occur this year in an indoor venue, the meeting space behind the fair offices on the fairgrounds at 2500 S.E. Main St.  During the event, signs will be posted to indicate the location.

“This is a great opportunity for seniors 50 or older to come out and see what might be available in the community for them — maybe something that they didn’t know about previously,” Delgado said. “We want all the seniors 50+ to come out and enjoy the afternoon at the fair.”

Admission and parking at the fair is free during this time. The event is scheduled to include free dental screenings, flu and pneumonia vaccinations that could entail a fee, walk bingo, entertainment and speakers, and free hotdogs and popcorn.

More information is available from the New Mexico Senior Olympics, 575-623-5777, nmso@nmseniorolympics.org. The other sponsor of the event is RSVP, or the Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program.
