Manuel Rivas Payne, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at his home with his daughter Kristy, and her husband Juston Waltrip, by his side.

Manuel was born on February 20, 1942 in Ford Stockton, TX to Hayman Payne and Jessie Rivas Payne. Manuel was a hardworking man all his life, having retired from the City of Roswell as a bus driver for the Pecos Trails Transit, because of his failing health. Working hard was his pride, unashamed to do whatever he needed to do, so long as he was working. Gifted with an enduring spirit, Manuel always anticipated better days during his trials of life. His loyalty towards his children was limitless and his love for them was without question. Manuel was a good father. He was willing to offer a helping hand to those in need and oftentimes giving them opportunities to help themselves. In recent years, Manuel looked forward to his Tuesday night dinners with his buddies.

Manuel is survived by his three children: Manuel D. Payne, Robyn Harvey and Kristy Velasco (Juston Waltrip); grandchildren: Manuel K. Payne, Ryan Payne, Tanya Thompson, Nathan Payne, Savanna Payne, Rickie Velasco, Jacob Velasco, Lacey Harvey and Deavon Harvey and numerous great-grandchildren; step-children: Rebecca Clements and Ronnie Kidd. Manuel is also survived by siblings: Mary Durbin, Lucy Payne, Marilyn Foster, Joann Banuelos and Rudy Payne as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Manuel was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael D. Payne, his parents and his sister Tina Dodge.

Kristy would like to thank Juston for his constant support, family and friends for their love and support, and Waymaker Church for serving our family. “As much as I will miss my dad, I know he is in heaven rejoicing with his loved ones and I will see him again.”
