Christine Wentland is the first NMMI Cadet to be awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Altrusa International of Roswell, NM, Inc. This scholarship is awarded to a female cadet from Chaves County.

Although Altrusa has been funding scholarships for students enrolled at ENMU-R for many years, this is the first time a scholarship has been awarded to a cadet at New Mexico Military Institute. In October 2018, the Vocational Services Committee met to determine the criteria for the new scholarship and the award came to fruition this fall. The recipient of this scholarship is chosen by the NMMI Scholarship Committee.

Seven $1,000 scholarships were also awarded to students attending ENMU-R this fall. Of the seven scholarships, four were awarded from Altrusa International of Roswell, NM, Inc., two were awarded from Altrusa International Foundation of Roswell, NM, Inc. and one scholarship was awarded from the Barbara Poole Nursing Scholarship fund which is managed by the Altrusa Foundation. To receive a scholarship at ENMU-R, a student must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen; be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours or more and demonstrate unmet financial need as determined by the ENMU-R Financial Aid Office by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All requirements to complete the financial aid file must be processed and finalized prior to submitting the scholarship application. All students applying for the Barbara Poole Nursing Scholarship must meet the aforementioned criteria and be a full-time student enrolled in the nursing program or a medical-related program. Applications can be found online at www.roswell.enmu.edu or in the ENMU-R Financial Aid Office.
