All God’s creatures welcome at the Blessing of the Animals

Krystle Smith with the Roswell Humane Society is seen here holding Ziggy, a one-year-old rat terrier/Boston terrier mix, while Reverend Dale Plummer of St. Andrews Episcopal Church is holding Randy, an approximately 12-week-old orange male domestic short hair cat. The puppy and kitten represent the Roswell Humane Society’s inhabitants — all looking for a forever home. At the upcoming Blessing of the Animals at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 505 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., all pets are invited to be blessed, a tradition going back more than 15 years in Roswell in recognition of Saint Francis of Assisi. The pets should be on a leash or in a carrier; livestock animals are welcome to wait for their blessing in the parking lot. The service starts with a memorial for pets who have passed and the owners can bring a photo of them to be blessed. Donations will benefit the Roswell Humane Society. For more information, visit standrewsroswell.com, roswellhumane.org or call St. Andrews at 575-622-1353 or the Humane Society at 575-622-8950. A full story will appear in this Sunday’s edition in the Vision section. (Christina Stock Photo)
