A local nursing home will move its patients elsewhere at least temporarily while it deals with a leaking roof.

Sunset Villa Care Center at 1515 S. Sunset Ave. has informed some people in the community that patients will be transferred to other facilities for the time being.

“Sunset Villa Care Center has identified roof damage and leakage due to the continuing rains,” said Brigitte Miller, who works for Fundamental Long-Term Care Inc., based in Maryland.

“Our first priority is the safety and well-being of our residents,” she said. “Therefore, we have determined that it is necessary to temporarily transfer all residents to other skilled nursing facilities in the area until the current storms have passed and we are able to reassess the facility. Sunset Villa Care Center employees will work closely with the other facilities to ensure a smooth transition, and we look forward to returning our residents to Sunset Villa Care Center as soon as possible.”

The Roswell area received heavy rains during the week, starting Tuesday morning and continuing through Thursday night. During those few days, it received more rainfall than it typically does for an entire month during September or October.
