Chaves Sheriff’s Office searching for suspect in Sunday homicide

The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect in a homicide that occurred Sunday night, according to a post on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Charles Yslas, chief deputy with the Sheriff’s Office, said Monday morning that Armando Joya, 31, is a suspect in the homicide deputies responded to Sunday at 10 p.m. on Vineyard Road between Hagerman and U.S. 285.

One person was found dead at the scene  and another was airlifted to a medical center for treatment. Yslas said no further details could be released about the nature of the homicide at this time.

Investigators were still executing search warrants of the crime scene and other locations, he said, and are working on obtaining an arrest warrant for Joya.

According to a post this morning on the Chaves County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Joya is considered armed and dangerous and people are warned not to approach him.
