A man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend Friday night is in custody, according to the Las Cruces Police Department.

Las Cruces Police had found Jesus Robles, 34 of Roswell, Wednesday morning in Las Cruces, according to a post on the Department’s Facebook page. Police had received information that Robles was in the area and might be driving a silver 2017 Chevy pickup truck.

Police later located a vehicle fitting that description at about 10 a.m. and conducted a traffic stop on it in the 1100 block of Monte Vista Avenue. After the vehicle came to a stop, Robles and a passenger who was with him allegedly jumped from the vehicle and led police on a brief foot chase.

Robles and his passenger were then both arrested. The passenger, —also arrested on an outstanding warrant— was not identified in the post. A press release issued Monday by the Roswell Police Department stated the passenger in the vehicle with Robles when he was arrested is not wanted in connection with the murder.

A warrant for Robles’ arrest was issued Saturday on one count of first-degree murder and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Court documents state Robles is a suspect in the shooting of Griselda Rascon, 33, of Roswell in her residence in the 800 block of Dinah Drive Friday night. The shooting allegedly happened after a nearly three-hour long argument about money that turned violent. The shooting allegedly happened shortly before 9 p.m. when Rascon’s daughter  left the house to get help.

Rascon was then transported to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center where she later died of her wounds.

Las Cruces Police will continue to hold Robles until he can be turned over to investigators with the Roswell Police Department, according to the Facebook post.
