The Gabbert family originated from Fort Worth, Texas and moved to Roswell, NM, where Lucy began attending Roswell High School and met a best friend for life Febe Cantano, with whom she also worked alongside in her career and her sweetheart, Jimmy L. Mince. Shortly after their class graduated in 1957, Lucy and Jimmy eloped in a small town near Santa Fe, NM. Together they had 3 children. Lucy remarried to Leroy Bennet Brady, on December 3, 1982. Leroy passed away in 2001.
During Lucy’s senior year in High school, she took a clerk position with the Employment Development Division for the state of New Mexico. Lucy served 26 years in this service career position and eventually retired as Area Director in 1980 at the age of 42. In the summertime she loved her swimming pool on the patio overlooking Mt. Capitan. Lucy also cherished family get-togethers’ and dinners whenever possible.
