Donald Wilbur Miller

On October 20, 2019, Donald Wilbur Miller of Corrales, NM passed away at the Beehive Assisted Living Homes in Bernalillo, NM after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born on November 9, 1940 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Roswell, NM to Elwin F. Miller and Dorothy Maryln Miller. After a brief move to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1942, the family moved to Roswell in 1950 to manage their family businesses, Roswell Hardware, Inc., Crane Supplies and Roswell Imported Cars.

Don grew up in Roswell attending Missouri Avenue School, South Junior High School and graduating from Roswell High School in 1959. He spent many years playing baseball, football and basketball for the schools he attended. He was an outstanding high school and college athlete. He then went to the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado on a baseball scholarship graduating in 1963. He continued his education at Stanford Law School in California, receiving his law degree in 1966.

He then returned to Santa Fe, NM and worked for the NM Attorney General and then in his own private practice before moving to Corrales, NM where he worked for the Children’s Court of Albuquerque until his retirement. Don made a difference in hundreds of lives during his years in practice. Many of his friends and colleagues from court often visited him after his retirement, which he very much appreciated and enjoyed. Don enjoyed working on political campaigns, hosting Christmas parties, and reading his beloved history books in his library.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Maryln Miller, grandparents Rev. Nelson and Nettie King, Lillian (“Dyke”) Mcknight Crane and husband Wilbur, and Frank Miller and great-nephew Danzen Lee Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Cindi F. Miller of Bernalillo NM, son Jeff & his wife Christiane Miller and grandchildren Nina and Aaron Miller of Albuquerque, NM, and son Matthew and his partner Florencia Velazquez of Santa Fe, NM, and step-daughter, April & Norm Henkel and granddaughter Addison Henkel of Clarksville, Tennessee, sister Maryln Sue Housewright and husband Bob of Roswell, nieces Dr. Kelly Burks-Copes and husband David, children Matt and Sarah Copes of League City, Texas and Leslie Abbott and husband Rick and daughter Hannah Abbott of Bryan, Texas, and many McKnight cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on November 8, 2019 at Beehive Assisted Living Homes, 180 Sheriff’s Posse Road in Bernalillo, NM. A burial service will be held in Roswell, NM at South Park Cemetery on November 9, 2019 at 11:00 p.m.
