RDR wins total of 24 awards during Press Association convention

The Roswell Daily Record earned 24 staff and individual awards in the New Mexico Press Association’s 2019 Better Newspaper Contest, including the E.H. Shaffer Award for General Excellence.

The awards were presented Saturday during the NMPA’s 111th annual convention in Albuquerque.

All told, the Daily Record brought home 13 first place awards across various news and advertising categories, along with 11 second place awards.

“The Daily Record has a long history of participation in the New Mexico Press Association, and has scored high at this year’s Press Association competition,” said Roswell Daily Record publisher Barbara Beck. “This is due to the dedicated professionalism of our employees and the teamwork they display. I am very proud of Roswell Daily Record employees who won a total of 24 awards.”

Of the General Excellence award, Roswell Daily Record editor John Dilmore said, “This is not an award a staff can win by going through the motions. It measures the quality of journalism over the entire contest period — a year. It lets the people of Roswell know that the staff here is working hard to cover the news in this community every day.”
