Arrest warrants were issued Wednesday for two suspects wanted in connection with a Tuesday night shooting that left one man dead in northwestern Roswell.

Bobby Ray Gonzales, 19, and Ernest Joe Rivera IV, 16, are wanted on charges of second-degree murder in the death of Joe Paul Martinez, 40, according to a press release issued by the Roswell Police Department Wednesday.

Police were called to the 2000 block of North Mississippi Avenue at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday. When police arrived, Martinez was found unresponsive in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel later determined Martinez was deceased, the release states.

Gonzales and Rivera are believed to have both fired shots at Martinez, according to the initial investigation. People reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area.

The release states people were shouting at each other and a fight broke out just before the shooting. Investigators ask that people contact the RPD with any information that could lead to the arrest of the two suspects.
