Veterans’ voices wanted for panel

American Legion Post 28 will be hosting a panel discussion on veterans’ issues with U.S. Rep. Xochitl Torres Small, D-NM, attending.

The panel will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Saturday at the American Legion at 1620 N. Montana Ave.

Five more veterans are needed to participate for a total of 15 on the panel. If interested in joining, veterans can confirm with Orlando Padilla, past commander and historian, at 575-317-1070 and/or Louis Mestas, chaplain, at 575-317-8689.

Also on Saturday, the “Keep ‘Em Flying” themed Veterans Day parade will start at 9 a.m. after parade participants meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Wool Bowl on Grand Avenue. The route of the parade is south on Grand Avenue, west onto College Boulevard, south on Main Street and will end at Veterans Memorial on the Chaves County Courthouse lawn, between Fifth and Main streets. Padilla said the ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

The 2019 B.R.A.V.E. 5K Run is also slated for Saturday at 7:30 a.m. Sign-ups for the 5K can be completed online by visiting https://www.active.com/roswell-nm/running/distance-running-races/b-r-a-v-e-5k-2019 or in person from 6:30-7:15 a.m. at Fourth and Main streets.
