New Mexico State Police have released the name of an 18-year-old woman killed Monday in a single vehicle accident on South Main Street near the Relief Route in Roswell.

The initial investigation suggests Alazay Wright, 18, of Roswell, was traveling north on South Main Street in a 2005 Ford Focus at about 3:20 p.m. when for unknown reasons, she lost control of her vehicle, according to a press release issued by the State Police.

The vehicle then veered off the roadway onto a median and collided head-on with a tree, the press release states. Wright sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

Police who responded to the accident closed a portion of South Main Street — from O’Connor Road to Offutt Street — to southbound and northbound traffic to handle the wreckage.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but it does appear that seatbelts were not properly used, the press release states.
