Two shooting incidents that injured people on Thursday are under investigation by the Roswell Police Department.
The first shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. at the Mayo Lodge in the 1700 block of West Second Street. A 58-year-old man suffered minor injuries to his face when a male fired a shotgun through the door of the victim’s room.
The suspect had knocked, and another man inside the room with the victim answered the door. That man slammed the door shut when he and the victim saw the man at the door holding a shotgun. The suspect then fired through the door as the men in the room tried to take cover.
The second incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on North Kentucky Avenue near West 17th Street, just outside the west side of the New Mexico Military Institute campus. A NMMI cadet was shot in the arm and suffered a non-life-threatening injury. The male cadet went to the NMMI infirmary for initial treatment of his injury and was then transported to a local hospital.
The incident led to the NMMI campus being placed on lockdown for approximately 40 minutes.
Anyone with potential information regarding either of these cases is asked to call the Roswell Police Department at 575-624-6770 or Chaves County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-594-TIPS(8477).
