Thanksgiving holiday schedules announced

Local governments and schools have announced their holiday schedules for the upcoming week.

City of Roswell

City Hall and other city administration offices will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, as well as the following day, Friday. Certain other city facilities will have varied holiday schedules. In addition, some city services will have adjusted schedules that week to accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Roswell Public Library, the Roswell Museum and Art Center, and the Roswell Recreation and Aquatic Center will each be closed Thursday and Friday and will reopen Saturday. The Roswell Adult Center will be closed Thursday through Saturday (plus Sunday when it is normally closed) during the long Thanksgiving weekend. The Roswell Visitors Center will be closed Thursday, but open again Friday.

The Spring River Zoo will be open both Thanksgiving Day and Friday.

There will be no Pecos Trails Transit bus service on Thanksgiving. Buses will be in operation Friday, but only on Main Street. The buses will run from 7:10 a.m. to 10:03 p.m.

City bus service and trash pickup will be altered because of the holiday.

The Sanitation Department’s trash pickup for next week has been adjusted. Areas south of Alameda Street plus areas east of Garden Avenue between Alameda and Second Street (normally picked up Monday and Thursday) will have their trash containers picked up Monday and Wednesday. Other areas north of Alameda (normally picked up Tuesday and Friday) will have their trash containers picked up Tuesday and Saturday.

Residents with individual roll-out containers must have them placed by the curb the night before the day of service or by 5 a.m. the day of service.

The landfill will be closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, but will reopen Saturday.


Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell will observe the Thanksgiving recess from Wednesday through Sunday, Dec. 1. No classes will be held and all campus offices will be closed. Instruction will resume and the campus will reopen on Monday, Dec. 2. For campus information, call 575-624-7000.

Chaves County

County offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Public Schools

K12 public schools in Roswell, Dexter, Hagerman and Lake Arthur are closed all next week, resuming classes Dec. 2.
