The event coincided Saturday with the David Gonzalez 1-Mile Run/Walk, which started at 8 a.m. on Martin Street, where it later ended. The Turkey Trot was organized by the Salvation Army and the Humane Society, while the 1-Mile Run/Walk was organized by the family of Gonzalez — who died earlier this year — to raise awareness of heart disease. The price to participate in the Memorial Run 1-Mile Run/Walk was a can of non-perishable food, and/or a can of dog or cat food.
