Two horses died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 285, north of Roswell Thursday, when the livestock trailer they were being transported in rolled over.
New Mexico State Police responded at about 7:10 a.m. to a crash near mile marker 152 involving a 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck that was pulling a livestock trailer containing the horses, according to a press release issued by State Police Thursday evening.
An initial investigation determined that the 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck involved in the accident was heading north on U.S. 285 when, for unknown reasons, the livestock trailer carrying the two horses rolled.
The pickup’s 18-year-old female driver from Sandia Park, New Mexico was not injured, but treated on the scene by emergency personnel, according to the release.
As a result of the crash and the ensuing investigation, U.S. 285 was partially closed from 7:51 a.m. to 1:33 p.m. on Thursday. No other information was provided by State Police about the accident as of Friday.
