Doris Mae Taylor, of Roswell NM, passed away from a brief illness at 6:10 am on December 1, 2019 at Covenant Medical Center. At 89, she was only twelve days shy of being 90 years young.
She was born on December 13, 1929, in Shamrock, Texas. The daughter of Fain and Bonnie Johnston, she graduated from Tatum High School and married Bennie Dick Taylor of Tatum, NM on December 20, 1946. They lived on the family ranch until retiring in 1976 and moved to Osage Beach, MO. Returning to Roswell she resided there since 1989.
Doris lived many years in Tatum. She loved accompanying Dick to the horseraces in Ruidoso and dancing the night through with Dick as her partner. Doris was known for the love of her children. She hosted many birthday parties and was a sponsor for many school events her children were involved in.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Carolyn Giovanini.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, daughter Lynda Field of Waco, TX and son Devoe Taylor and wife Sherry of Tatum, NM., a grandson Kalup Taylor and wife Michelle and a great grandson Kase Taylor all of Roswell, NM, and several nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her two younger brothers Robert (Bob) Johnston of Aztec, NM and Ralph (Mack) Johnston of Pismo Beach, CA.
As per her wishes Doris will be buried next to her beloved husband Dick in the family cemetery plot in Lovington at a later date.
A reception in her honor will be open to all on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 1:30 pm. The reception will at The Tatum United Methodist Church on the corner of 2nd St. and Bridges in Tatum, NM.
